The Expedition

The itinerary

We have scheduled to leave the capital Longyearbyen around the 1st of April 2008. The trip to and back from the summit will be done on solid ground. Geometrically speaking, the two points are roughly 60 miles apart but taking the detour inland adds a dozen more. Skiing at a rate of eight hours per day, to go in and out, ten days are needed to complete the trip.At this time of year though, one has to provide for five days of bad weather. Adding to that a couple of days before and after the expedition for logistic reasons, our stay in Spitzbergen should last about twenty days.
